Quick and Easy Marinara Sauce

Ingredients
  

  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 4 cloves garlic, peeled and minced
  • 1/4 cup white wine Pinot grigio
  • 1/3 cup chicken broth
  • 1/4 tsp basil, dried
  • 1/2 tsp oregano, dried
  • 1/2 tsp table salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 28 ounce can peeled, crushed tomatoes
  • granulated sugar (optional if you like some sweetness in your sauce.) **see note
  • red pepper flakes (optional) (optional if you like some spicy heat in your sauce.) ***see note

Instructions
 

  • Peel and mince the garlic.

  • Heat olive oil and garlic in large saucepan over medium heat until garlic is fragrant but not browned, 1 minute.

  • Add wine and chicken broth and bring to a low simmer for 2 minutes.
  • Add the crushed tomatoes.
  • Add the oregano and basil, salt and pepper.  Increase heat to medium-high and bring to simmer.

  • Reduce heat to medium-low and simmer until slightly thickened, about 20-25 minutes, stirring every few minutes.

  • Taste the sauce and adjust your seasonings with salt and pepper. ***See note regarding seasonings ***
  • Serve hot.

Notes

**I never use sugar in my sauce, however, some people like a little bit of sweetness. If you feel you'd like some sugar in your sauce, start with 1/2 tsp and taste it and add in 1/2 tsp increments according to how you like it.
***If you like some spicy heat in your sauce, add 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes (or more depending on how you like it).
